I'd also wager they were caught on the issue of the female model for Broken and didn't know what to do. Getting the Broken to Kalimdor probably would have been a lot - not that the Exodar making a dynamic entry wasn't. Their capital likely would have had to be slapped as an island on the Eastern Kingdoms which would have left Kalimdor with no additions compared to the EK's two. The only population of Broken in the game at the release of BC were a few NPCs in the Swamp of Sorrows in amongst the Lost Ones and the Broken weren't really portrayed as having much in the means of warp ships during WC3:TFT. One part was possibly the difficulty of placing a Broken home city that was satisfying on both a lore and gameplay level. I kind of suspect there were a good number of reasons that they ended up drafting the Draenei rather than using the Broken as a playable race. Obviously if they did do this, it would change everything we know about WoW lore and have a massive butterfly effect so I guess it’s good they went in the direction they did, I just don’t get it.įrom an in-game perspective, what’s the deal with Draenei non-broken shaman? Why would they abandon the light for elementals more so than a human or even a blood elf would for example? Most Draenei shaman we see in game are broken so whatevs even the precedent? Shouldn’t they have gone all in on the broken, made them the true Draenei, and make them more shamanistic and dark? From a meta perspective it would’ve been the more natural counter to blood elves.

What doesn’t make sense is the decision to make that new alliance race these pretty-faced light-using people. The more I think about the lore with Draenei, especially their inception, the less sense their direction makes.īasically blizzard wanted to add shamans to the Alliance, as well as a more “large” and physically imposing race, to counter the prettier paladin race going to the horde. I’ve always been resentful that we never get the Broken or even the “lost ones” Draenei from the old games. Never really cared for their lore in WoD or Legion. I am learning to play and understand WoW Draenei more with TBC classic.
